Patrycja Nowakowska, B.A (Hons.), LL.B, B.C.L

Meet Maître Pat Nowakowska!

Her key focus is litigation, including class actions, and dispute resolution. However, as a former small business owner, with a seat at the Board of Directors of Societe de development du Boulevard de Saint-Laurent (SDBSL) she also brings entrepreneurial competence and innovative solutions to Bergman & Associates.

Pat obtained both her common law (LL.B) and civil law (B.C.L) degrees from McGill University where she minored in Quebec Studies.

Prior to studying law, Pat was one of the select participants in Concordia University’s Graduate Diploma in Communications Program, where she served as program president and focused her studies on documentary film-making. Her passion for film and grass-roots activism resulted in a production of a documentary This is Solidarity chronicling peaceful protest of the No One is Illegal collective.

During law school, her notable McGill Law Faculty academic feats include, co-creating a first-time ever Cyberlaw course (now part of regular curriculum), co-organizing the Online Dispute Resolution Conference (ODR) with Université de Montreal and initiating a pioneer course inclusive of Quebec history at Science Po university in Paris. Extra-curricular engagements included founding the IP, IT & Policy club (IPITPol), representing law students on the Academic Staff & Chair Recruitment Committee, and writing for various publications, namely Canadian Lawyer Magazine, Focus Law/ Droit Magazine, Quid Novi, and Contours journal. Pat devoted the remainder of her time to working as a research assistant for various professors in McGill’s Law and Economics faculties, as well as for the Centre for Intellectual Property and Policy.

As a lawyer, Pat has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court, Quebec’s Superior Court as well as the Court of Appeal but her guiding philosophy is that courts should be the last resort for conflict resolution. Pat does not hesitate to tailor fee structures so as to encourage access to justice.

You can speak with Pat in English, French, Polish, and Italian (on an intermediate level). She enjoys home renovations, hiking on the mountain, and the cinematic arts.
